Last night, a very historic event occurred. Our very own Phladelphia Phillies won the world series against Tampa Bay, breaking the curse. I love the story of this curse. They said for generations that no building should be taller than City Hall, where William Penn stand on the top, watching over the city. But once the One Liberty Place skyscraper was built, Philadelphia sports team have not won a championship. So four months ago they attached another William Penn figure to the top of the Comcast Center, the new tallest building in the city. And just weeks later, this curse was broken and the Phillies have won the world series! This is so big, it even has me excited, and I rarely watch baseball. Now if only the Eagles could win a few...

Conscious
I sure that at some point in your life someone must have told you that you always need to be aware of your surroundings. Growing up in the city, I heard these words of wisdom day in and day out. So whenever I went out, I heard the sound of Mama’s voice in the back of my mind saying, “ Be conscious. Use your head.” I didn't know exactly what she meant by conscious, but i just assumed it meant good. And I was usually very careful, until one day I came across a dangerous situation.
One day after school, a few of my friends and I were playing hopscotch in the schoolyard. It was a nice day, so we didn’t really want to go home just yet. But we became bored with this game and set out to find something fun to do. As we walked down the road away from the safe haven of school, I noticed the neighborhood start to change. The planted flowers and trees turned into pavement and little sprouts of grass shooting out of the cracks. The playground and friendly faces turned into boarded up windows and nasty stares and shuts from the older boys. I got that feeling in the pit of my stomach, you know, the one you get when you know something is wrong.
“ I don’t think this is safe. Lets go home,” I tried to convince my friends.
“ No don’t be such a baby,” they replied.
When we turned the next corner, we came face to face with a man. He had on a big jacket and something in his right hand. “Want a smoke, girls?” he asked with an evil grin smeared across his face.
At the time, I didn’t know what he wanted, but I knew that something wasn’t right. Suddenly aware of their surroundings my friends turned on their heels and made a dash back up the hill to the playground. I followed at a steady pace, just wanting to get away from him.
Now I know what Mama meant when she said “conscious.” She did in fact mean god, but she also wanted me to be alert, the siren in my mind going off wen something isn't right.

Out of the Box
I think that to think "out of the box" means to think creatively and what no one else is thinking. It is out of the ordinary and individual expression. Many significant events have occurred thanks to people thinking this way. For example, many inventions and discoveries involve thinking outside of the box. Just think what the world would be like if Ben Franklin had never flown his kite with a key attached!

First fall frost

Today is October 20th, and the first frost of the season. I don't like the cold unless it is snowing, so his morning was a real disappointment to me. When I peered out my window this morning, I saw that my font lawn was blanketed in white, and my window was cold to the touch.
Frost is the feeling of the hairs on my arms rise as I step outside. It is the sound of the grass, once so soft, now crunching beneath my feet. Frost is the sound of my teeth chattering and the bumps on my legs when a cold breeze comes my way. I don't like this change in weather, do you?

foggy fall morning

Even though it's the middle of October, the temperature is excepted to skyrocket to 80 degrees today! But this morning is a dreary one. I walked out my front door only to see the dense cloudy fog hovering over the jam-packed street. The sky as a dark as night, played tricks with my mind as I started to doze off on the bus ride to school. I am tired and want to wear m new winter jacket. Let it snow! I hate these foggy fall mornings

Restaurant Menu
My favorite restaurant is Peace A Pizza. I basically live there during the summer when I'm away, and it brings back so many good memories. The menu has a sixties theme theme. On the cover is a VW van and peace signs everywhere. The splash of color almost blinds me. Some dishes are described based on the theme. For example, there is a physcadelic strawberry salad! That's my mom's favorite. The menu is arranged by types of food: pizza, salads, pasta, drinks, sides, etc. Then it breaks of into sub-categories ( like kind of pizza) or give the dish a deliciously creative name ( like Brooklyn Bridge pizza)!

Long weekend!

Today is Wednesday, usually the middle and the most stressful day of the week. But tomorrow is the start of our four day weekend, so I'm pretty excited. I cant wait to see my friends and get some well needed ad deserved rest! This week was filled with tests, papers, projects, homework, and to top it all off, two field hockey games and one killer practice. :( Even though I am not Jewish, this weekend is going to be very important for me.
