Today is Wednesday, Hump Day, the middle of the week. UGH why are all of the teachers trying to fit everything in this week?! It's too much. I have like 2 projects and 3 papers to write by tomorrow and i think i am going to die ! :( But on the right side, only five more school day until winter break!!!! I just found out yesterday that my mom and I are going to New York City for two of those days, which means SHOPPING! :) you're jealous.. Oh and I am looking forward to semi on Saturday. I'm like in love with my dress and I can't wait to hang out with all of my friends before and after the dance. The holiday season is crazy, isn't it?

Monday Morning

Ughh another gloomy Monday morning. As if the cold and windy weather wasn't enough, I have a terrible cold to top it all off. I keep coughing and sneezing and I just want to be in bed. On the bright side, the holiday season is just around the corner. We only have 12 more school days until winter break and I still have no idea what to get any of my family or friends for the holidays! I may not know what they want but I have known what I want for months! At the top of my Christmas list is a brand new IMac!! I realllly need a new desktop because mine is always crashing and ruins the printer. All of my friends have macs and I've been asking or it since last Christmas. So if I come downstairs on Christmas morning and there is no big white box sitting under the tree, I am going to be very disappointed.

Welcome back from a much needed break! The past four days flew by, but my weekend was great. My Thanksgiving table was a little empty because my cousin's flight was cancelled and my grandparent's forgot they had already RSVP'd to their friends house six months ago! We celebrated with just my immediate family instead. The next day, still slow and sluggish from all of our holiday turkey, I receive some terrible news. I found out that my close friend's father, who I have known since I was six, had a stroke at 46 and is in the hospital until tonight. I feel so bad for my friend, having to sit down to Thanksgiving dinner without her own father must have been hard on her whole family. On a lighter note, the rest of my weekend was fun. I spent a lot of time with friends and took advantage of the Black Friday sales. This holiday was so relaxing, I just can't wait 3 more weeks for winter break ! =(

New Year's


Next month, it'll be New Year's Eve. People gather in parties, wearing crazy glasses, blowing obnoxious horns, screaming at the top of their lungs. On the last day of December, everyone flocks to York City so they can see the ball drop. From a building's top it falls, as the crowd counts down, 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...HAPPY 2009! Couples share their first kiss for the refreshed calendar, but when the hype has died down, streets begin to clear, we realize nothing changed. Same jobs, families, feelings. No shock sent up your spine. Oh well, twelve more months until the following celebration.

Hello, my name is Bo Tawn and I live an exhilarating life- style. My job allows me to travel all over the world. You see, I am a fashion accessory and my duty is to help fashionista’s clothes stay on and together. I assist in everything from keeping jackets closed, to having a dress stay in place after a much-needed fitting. I have dawned on EVERYONE’S outfits! I have sat on the fat belly of Rosie O’Donnell as she babbled away on The View, and I must admit, I thought it was going t burst! And one day, I did just that. She was leaving the set, walking through the alley to her limo, when her suit jacket popped. Through the air I flew, the wind blowing back my fuzz, and landed with a “Tink!” on the pavement. I looked up only to come face-to-face with a dirty old hobo. He picked me up with his smelly, grimy hands and tossed me around. One time I missed his hand and sailed once again through the air towards the street. I landed just in time for the annual Queen’s Day Parade. I heard the clip-clop of hoofs come up behind me and the next thing I knew, I was in the mouth of a beast! This horse continued to trot down the avenue with me in tow. I was smashed between his teeth and gums for a while, but I was starting to slip. Slowly, I slid back towards his tongue, and as soon as I touched it, the horse let out a “Nay!” and jolted his head back. He spit me out and I landed on the satin bench of the carriage he was pulling along. Once again, I found myself in the hands of a stranger. Her gloved hands were dripping in gold, ruby and sapphire as she said in her funny voice “Oh my, what a shame. It appears as though a clasp has fallen off my pea coat!”
“ Don’t worry your majesty, I’ll send it off to the palace tailor as soon as we return to England,” said a strange man as her whipped me from her grasp and plopped me down into his dark pocket. I guess the queen and Rosie have the same stylist. She must have good taste because I find myself to be quite handsome.
I am circular and small. I have two cut-outs in my middle to keep me on the clothing. My soft and conservative turquoise and navy tweed is SUIT-able for any occasion. I am simple, classy and sophisticated. My dainty size makes me cute and adorable. My knit is soft to the touch ad completes ant ensemble. After people see me on the Queen of England, I’ll be in high demand. So who knows, hopefully you’ll find me on your next new purchase.

OH MY GOSH !

She turned to men and money to satisfy her needs. She cut off all food until she simply stopped eating altogether. Her lowest weight was just 96 pounds!

One day, knock came to the door. Elaine trugged to the door and cautiously opened it.

“Thank you sir,” the woman at the door slurred. Her brittle hair blew back just slightly a she stepped outside her apartment door to receive the letter. He grabbed the envelope out of the bike messenger’s hand, her yellow nails shining against the starch white mail.
“No problem ma’am. You have a nice day now,” the messenger replied over his shoulders as he hopped down the icy steps to his shiny new bike he had probably gotten for Christmas that waited patiently on the curb.
The woman slowly closed the door behind her and walked back to her kitchen table. It was not a long walk because the apartment wasn’t much. But as soon as Bill returned, he promised to buy a new place. She walked back into the room to the shriek of a newborn baby over her favorite morning program, Good Morning America. She picked up the small child, burped him, and placed him gently back in his highchair. The mother finally sat at her table an looked at he envelope. It was addressed to her, Elaine Johnson. In one corner was an American flag stamp and in he other was the return address. Just looking at it made the butterflies in her stomach come back, just like they do every time she got a letter from him. The address was her husband’s army base in Iraq. He has been over there fighting for the past six months and this was her third letter since his departure. Unable to contain her excitement any longer, she tore open the envelope and began to read.
Dear Mrs. Johnson,
Mrs. Johnson, on behalf of the United States Army, I regret to inform you that your husband has died in a terrible accident. On December 29th…
Elaine’s eyes continued to dart around the paper, but it was all a blur. She started to shake, her eyes watered and she lost grip f the paper. She watched as it spiraled and swayed, out f control, all the way to the blue linoleum tile, just like her life soon would.


After Bill’s funeral, Elaine felt worthless and used. Not a day went by where she didn’t ask God, why? Why did you take him and not me? She lost all appetite, and eventually just stopped eating. She felt her lack of beauty was the reason for Bill’s death. She spent her days curled up in bed and her nights bent over the toilet seat.

Permanent leave

It was another delivery man, the usual bearer of bad news. He handed her a brown package, wrapped with a gold ribbon. She quickly signed the clipboard he had shoved in her face and shuffled back the kitchen table that held so many horrible memories for the anorexic woman. She slumped down into her chair and ripped away the rough cardboard flaps. Inside was a suitcase and a letter. She plopped the suitcase onto the table and slowl unlatched the lid. As the suitcase opened, a ray of green light seemed to shine out of the case. Elaine's heart stopped. Laying at the bottom were stacks, all bundled neatly, straight as a pin, and neatly aligned, were rolls and rolls of twenty dollar bills. Elaine jumped from her chair and began to race arounf the room like a mad woman. She ran out into the street and started to dance. She twirled and spun, shouting "I'm rich! I'm rich'.' She skipped from sidewalk to sidewalk, glided from intersection to intersection, and weaved her way around the honking cars and waving fists. For the first time in a long time, Elain felt, free, careless, invigorated, so careless in fact that she payed no mind to what she was doing, and in the blink of an eye, Elaine's body was spraled across the now red windsheild of a Toyota Corolla.
This marked the end of her Elaine's tragic life. her battles with anorexia and depression only made her son, Bill Jr., that much stronger. He of course inherited all of the money, and also the letter that came along with it. You see, Elaine was so caught up in the joy of her new and mysteriously found wealth, that she neglected to open the letter, another letter in a starch white envelope with the return address to iraq, signed Bill Johnson.

Yesterday was a very important day in American history. People in record numbers flocked to the polls to cast their vote for the next president of the United States. After a grueling day, the results began to come in state by state. After all the ballots had been tallied, Barack Obama was declared the winner. His 364 electoral votes compared to John McCain's 163 brought in a great victory for the democratic party, but we shouldn't underestimate the popularity of McCain. He was only down by a mere 2 percentage points in the popular vote and put up a good fight for a Republican in a country set on changing things up. I must say, I was one of those people who were screaming at their TV's last night like a football fan for John McCain. I really wanted him to win for so many reasons, so I hope Obama will be able to pull through for us.

We are the champions !


Last night, a very historic event occurred. Our very own Phladelphia Phillies won the world series against Tampa Bay, breaking the curse. I love the story of this curse. They said for generations that no building should be taller than City Hall, where William Penn stand on the top, watching over the city. But once the One Liberty Place skyscraper was built, Philadelphia sports team have not won a championship. So four months ago they attached another William Penn figure to the top of the Comcast Center, the new tallest building in the city. And just weeks later, this curse was broken and the Phillies have won the world series! This is so big, it even has me excited, and I rarely watch baseball. Now if only the Eagles could win a few...

Conscious

I sure that at some point in your life someone must have told you that you always need to be aware of your surroundings. Growing up in the city, I heard these words of wisdom day in and day out. So whenever I went out, I heard the sound of Mama’s voice in the back of my mind saying, “ Be conscious. Use your head.” I didn't know exactly what she meant by conscious, but i just assumed it meant good. And I was usually very careful, until one day I came across a dangerous situation.
One day after school, a few of my friends and I were playing hopscotch in the schoolyard. It was a nice day, so we didn’t really want to go home just yet. But we became bored with this game and set out to find something fun to do. As we walked down the road away from the safe haven of school, I noticed the neighborhood start to change. The planted flowers and trees turned into pavement and little sprouts of grass shooting out of the cracks. The playground and friendly faces turned into boarded up windows and nasty stares and shuts from the older boys. I got that feeling in the pit of my stomach, you know, the one you get when you know something is wrong.
“ I don’t think this is safe. Lets go home,” I tried to convince my friends.
“ No don’t be such a baby,” they replied.
When we turned the next corner, we came face to face with a man. He had on a big jacket and something in his right hand. “Want a smoke, girls?” he asked with an evil grin smeared across his face.
At the time, I didn’t know what he wanted, but I knew that something wasn’t right. Suddenly aware of their surroundings my friends turned on their heels and made a dash back up the hill to the playground. I followed at a steady pace, just wanting to get away from him.
Now I know what Mama meant when she said “conscious.” She did in fact mean god, but she also wanted me to be alert, the siren in my mind going off wen something isn't right.

It's a freezing Thursday morning, and while everyone is hyped up about the Phillies' win, I just cant wait for the weekend! I have had so many tests and projects, my mind is barely able to function! This weekend I am planning on going t six flags with my friends, and call me a dork, but I REALLY want to see high school musical 3 =) This weekend i plan on sleeping in and staying up all night, and jut clear my mind so im ready to start fresh for next week! Ughh QPAs are coming! =(

First fall frost



Today is October 20th, and the first frost of the season. I don't like the cold unless it is snowing, so his morning was a real disappointment to me. When I peered out my window this morning, I saw that my font lawn was blanketed in white, and my window was cold to the touch.
Frost is the feeling of the hairs on my arms rise as I step outside. It is the sound of the grass, once so soft, now crunching beneath my feet. Frost is the sound of my teeth chattering and the bumps on my legs when a cold breeze comes my way. I don't like this change in weather, do you?

foggy fall morning


Even though it's the middle of October, the temperature is excepted to skyrocket to 80 degrees today! But this morning is a dreary one. I walked out my front door only to see the dense cloudy fog hovering over the jam-packed street. The sky as a dark as night, played tricks with my mind as I started to doze off on the bus ride to school. I am tired and want to wear m new winter jacket. Let it snow! I hate these foggy fall mornings

Restaurant Menu


My favorite restaurant is Peace A Pizza. I basically live there during the summer when I'm away, and it brings back so many good memories. The menu has a sixties theme theme. On the cover is a VW van and peace signs everywhere. The splash of color almost blinds me. Some dishes are described based on the theme. For example, there is a physcadelic strawberry salad! That's my mom's favorite. The menu is arranged by types of food: pizza, salads, pasta, drinks, sides, etc. Then it breaks of into sub-categories ( like kind of pizza) or give the dish a deliciously creative name ( like Brooklyn Bridge pizza)!

Long weekend!


Today is Wednesday, usually the middle and the most stressful day of the week. But tomorrow is the start of our four day weekend, so I'm pretty excited. I cant wait to see my friends and get some well needed ad deserved rest! This week was filled with tests, papers, projects, homework, and to top it all off, two field hockey games and one killer practice. :( Even though I am not Jewish, this weekend is going to be very important for me.

Today is a rainy Friday. Fridays are supposed to be fun and exciting, arriving at school with the satisfaction that you only have oe more day of learning before your weekend begins. BUt not this one. I can see the expressions on people's faces, and I know no one is going to be in a good mood. This morning at the bus stop, i could hear the splash of cars speeding through the rain filled puddles and the sound of rain drops plummiting to the ground. I can practically feel my freshly straightened hair frizzing. I can taste the cold fall air hovering.

Autumn

Today is the first day of autumn, or fall. When i think of autumn, so many things come to mind. I think of the distinct smell of the chilly, brisk air and the colorful leaves swirling through it. Fall also brings a brand new school year and the rigorous field hockey season that comes with it. Autumn doesn't only change the weather and color of the leaves, but it brings a change in people too. It is now the time to really buckle down and focus on your work. Long gone are the days of summer, the beach, the sun, your freedom. But hey, look on the bright side, only nine month to go! =)

Cree Name Short Story- Dances Like Sun

In her younger years, she would move to the beat of a different drum. While all the others were timid and shy, she would go out there and shine like the sun. Always upbeat and energetic, as soon as she got out there, all eyes were on her. You could tell by the way she danced, that she had a bright future. She continued with her hobby for a few years, until her most loyal friend Kathryn moved away. She had been with her in lessons since day one, ad she couldn’t imagine dancing with out her. She left her dance school, longing to go back in, put on her ballet flats and practice her pliyes with Kathryn, but unless she was by her side, the thought of dancing again didn’t even cross her mind.
She lived the next few years pursuing other hobbies. She tried softball, field hockey, even tennis, but nothing amounted to her love of the arts. Then her day finally came. When the girl was in sixth grade, one of her friends told her she was switching dance schools and knew she used to dance, so she asked her to join with her. The former dancer was reluctant to accept the offer, she hadn’t dance in years, but with a little pushing from her friends she decided to try it. Within her first class, she picked up right where she left off in ballet, tap and modern. She leaped, sashayed and frolicked across the floor, pouring her heart and soul into class every night. But halfway through the season, dancers started dropping like flies. Girls were twisting their ankles and many quit because of other commitments. By recital time, only three girls were left, including our star.
It was the day of the final show, the girl walked up to the hotel, head held high, and the light June night breeze blowing through her hair. Her stomach was crawling with butterflies, more of angst than nerves. She briskly signed in and walked to her waiting room to meet the rest of her class. But when she walked in, only one girl was waiting for her. Her name was Lauren; she was new to dancing so she wasn’t too keen on the steps yet. The announcer called their names, they were on deck. The girls mind raced with thoughts; should they leave? Should they perform minus one girl in a dance choreographed for three? She tried explaining the situation to the announcer but she was too flustered and shoved them onto the stage. She looked out into the crowd to see hundreds of faces looking up at her. Above her, the hot lights streaming down onto her sweating face. The music began and so did the girl’s feet. She swiftly danced around the stage, not forgetting one step along the way, and improvising where the missing student was needed. When the music finally stopped, the crowd roared with applause. She gripped Lauren’s hand and they took their well deserved bow. Backstage, she was greeted by her teacher, “Wow, that was incredible,” he beamed, “From now on I will call you Dances Like Sun.” And that is how a star was born.
